Ways to Save Money in January

Good savings habits are a perfect New Year’s resolution, and we know just the tips to help you stay true on your resolution. We have a couple of ideas of how to save money, and they could even inspire you to save for the rest of the year!

Check Your Pantry

Instead of food shopping regularly, try emptying your pantry, freezer, and your fridge. You could find the best ingredients you may have forgotten you had! This will help you to cut down on your grocery bill and clear out space. Remember, the trick is to use what you have, and who knows, you might discover your new favorite dish.

Bulk Shopping

Now that you’ve cleaned out your pantry, it’s time to visit the grocery store. We suggest trying a wholesale club, like BJ’s. You can enjoy their deals even if you don’t have a big family. Find a friend, or two, and go in on a bulk shopping trip.

Buy in Season

It’s cheaper to buy foods that are in season! And surprisingly, there are quite a few fruits and vegetables that are in season during the winter months. For January, try broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, leeks, turnips and all of the citruses.

Turn Down the Heat

Grab your sweater and turn down the heat. No matter what size your house is, heating bills can still be painful to pay. Instead of turning the dial, grab sweaters, socks, and a warm blanket. When you layer, you save.

Clear Out Your Inbox

Unsubscribe from those emails that you get to spend on clothes or appliances. They can be so tempting to click on and find the latest deal that you probably end up spending money you didn’t plan for. Your wallet and checking account will thank you when you unsubscribe.

Matinee Shows

Instead of grabbing dinner and then seeing a show, try the show first, then dinner. Many theaters offer matinee prices on the weekends, too, so you can see the same show for less. That means you’ll save money and be able to talk about the film over dinner!

Now that you have a few ways to save money, consider building a budget for the new year. Life changes, so your budget should reflect your financial goals and future.
