There’s a lot you can do in a week—so long as you save for it. Whether you are interested in a road trip or a cross-country flight, saving for spring break means putting away money you are earning now to put to good use later. Tuck away everything you earn from jobs to birthday money from relatives. Then deposit those funds into a savings account that will earn interest while you’re asleep.
Saving For Spring Break? Three Vacations Worth the Splurge
Thankfully, you don’t have to save much to get far. There are so many amazing places you can go if you’re saving for spring break. Here are a few of our favorites.
1. Portland, Oregon
Portland, Oregon is inexpensive to get to and easy to navigate. You can take the train straight to downtown from the airport and there are a number of fun hostels and hotels you can stay at while you explore the land of Portlandia. McMenamins is a favorite, featuring on-site pubs, restaurants, events and concerts, and even bath houses that are perfect for an eclectic week away.
2. Charleston, South Carolina
Charleston, South Carolina is the perfect spot for some southern sun. Featuring an old-school glamour that can’t be replicated, Charleston has beautiful historic plantation homes (that you can even stay in), long stretches of white beaches, and ports filled with every sort of sailboat. If you want to spend spring break sitting in a rocking chair, soaking up some sun, and sipping sweet tea with your best friends, this is just the place.
3. Quebec City, Canada
The next best thing to a trip to Europe, Quebec City has all the romance of Paris without the incredibly high ticket price. Put your French language skills to good use as you navigate the cobblestone streets of The Petit Champlain district or spend an afternoon picnicking in the Parc du Bois-de-Coulonge gardens. No matter the case, Quebec City will give you a taste of Europe without ever leaving the continent.
4. San Diego, California
In case you thought we weren’t going to include a beach town, you can’t do any better than San Diego. Though it may still be a little chilly this time of year, that means you’ll get the best rates on hotels and Airbnbs. Don’t forget to check out Stone Brewery. It’s a bit off the beaten path but strolling through the gardens while drinking an award-winning brew can’t be beat. And don’t forget to order the beer cheese soup—it’s not to be missed.
